There was once a joke a long long time ago that goes like this:
“Foreigner #1: In our country, we wash our hands twice before eating bread.
Foreigner #2: That’s nothing. In our country, we are so clean, we never touch our bread. Instead we use napkins to hold them.
Filipino: In our country, we wash our bread. :)”
Let’s face it. Filipinos have weird eating habits.
- As the title suggests, we dip our morning pandesal into hot Nescafe or Milo.
- We eat balut(fertilized duck embryo) which is apparently scary enough to be featured on fear factor. Some eat it in a regular basis claiming it “strengthens their knees”
- We leave no part of the chicken uneaten, even the blood. But that’s another story.
- We eat rice with almost anything from viand to chicharon. I even know of someone who eats these with rice:
There’s more but the other things seem to escape me right now. Anyway, Filipino cuisine might be weird but it certainly is not the weirdest. Another thing about pinoys and their food is that we eat a lot of our own. It is not uncommon to see an aisle marked as “Filipino Foods” containing stuff such as Pancit Canton, Palabok Mix among other stuff in international cities especially in the Middle East.
Well, we do love our food. Yet another thing that makes being a Filipino, a fuller and tastier experience. 🙂
